Fair Visa Fair Chance Campaign by Indian Students in UK

A group of Indian students in the UK has started a campaign called “Fair Visa, Fair Chance” to support the Graduate Route visa, which lets international graduates work for two years after finishing their degrees. The campaign comes as the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC), led by UK Home Secretary James Cleverly, reviews the visa. There are worries that changes to the visa could hurt progress and discourage international students from coming to the UK.

Lord Karan Bilimoria, who co-chairs the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on International Students, stresses how important it is to offer work opportunities after graduation to attract students globally and boost the UK economy. The campaign aims to protect the Graduate Route, highlighting its value for both international and British students, as well as for the financial health of universities.

NISAU UK, representing Indian students, intends to provide evidence to the MAC, emphasizing the visa’s crucial role in higher education. Recent data shows a drop in Indian students applying to UK universities, raising concerns about the visa’s impact on attracting talented individuals. MAC’s analysis questions whether the visa’s goal is to increase international student numbers or draw skilled graduates for well-paying jobs.
