EU Streamlines Process for Migrants to Work & Live in Europe

The European Union is making it easier for foreign workers to get work and residency permits, aiming to promote legal migration and address labor shortages.

The EU Parliament supports simplifying regulations for a Single Permit, allowing individuals to work and live in the EU. Final approval from the Council is needed before these changes take effect.

The updates include faster application decisions within 90 days, the ability for permit holders to change employers, and extended stays for unemployed permit holders.

Single Permit holders can now switch employers easily, with some restrictions and protections in place. Unemployed permit holders have time to find new jobs before their permits are withdrawn.

The changes need Council approval and two years for Member States to implement, except for Denmark and Ireland.
