Egypt has announced that it will cease issuing e-visas to Canadian travelers starting from October 1, 2023.

Consequently, Canadian citizens intending to visit Egypt after this date will be required to obtain a visa from an Egyptian embassy or consulate abroad. The embassy has detailed the application process, which can be completed in person at either the embassy in Ottawa or the Egyptian consulate in Montreal or via mail, with specific requirements specified on the embassy’s official website.

Notably, individuals currently holding e-visas issued before October 1 will still be permitted entry into Egypt, even if their visa extends beyond this date. However, if they plan to stay in Egypt for a period exceeding the validity of their e-visa, they must apply for a new visa before their current one expires. Given Egypt’s popularity as a tourist destination, this adjustment in visa requirements has the potential to impact a substantial number of Canadian travelers. Hence, individuals planning trips to Egypt after October 1 should plan accordingly and initiate their visa application process as soon as possible.
