What Is Schengen Visa?

This means that a person with a Schengen Visa can move freely between these countries without having to go through immigration checks at the border.
To obtain a Schengen Visa, applicants need to apply at the embassy or consulate of the country they intend to visit or spend most of their time in. The visa allows for a stay of up to 90 days within a 180-day period and can be used for tourism, business, or other purposes. However, the visa does not grant the holder the right to work or study in the Schengen Area.

Identify visa type
To get a visa, first, figure out the visa type you need and check if you qualify.Know the required documents, processing time, and fees for your application. Make sure to follow the guidelines for your visa category. If your documents aren’t in English, you might need translations.

Remember these steps:
- Choose Denmark as your main destination when filling out the application.
- Inform the staff at the visa center if your main destination is Greenland and/or the Faroe Islands.
Begin your application
After determining the visa type you need, please complete the online application form accordingly:
- For Short-term Visas, fill out the online application form on Apply Visa.
- For Residence Permits, fill out the online application form on NewToDenmark.
Book an appointment
- After filling out your visa form, the next step is to schedule an appointment at a Visa Application Centre for biometric information, which includes capturing your fingerprints and photo.
- Once you’ve made the appointment, you will receive an email confirming the date and time of your appointment, along with the letter of appointment.
- If you are applying as part of a family or group, each member will need to book a separate appointment.
Pay your fees
- After completing your online application and paying the visa fee, make sure to print the cover letter and payment receipt. These documents are necessary for submitting your application at the Visa Application Centre.
- Additionally, please be aware that apart from the visa fee, there is a service fee that you must pay when you submit your application at the Visa Application Centre.
Visit a Visa Application Centre
- To complete the visa application process, you are required to personally submit your filled-out visa application form at the Visa Application Centre.
- For clients who have not scheduled an appointment using the online system, they can visit the centre as walk-ins, but this option is only available for the Red Carpet category. The walk-in hours are between 08 am and 11 am.

Track your application
- Once you have submitted your visa application at the Visa Application Centre, you will receive an email notification when a decision has been made and returned to the Centre.
- If you prefer SMS updates or have limited access to email, inquire at the Visa Application Centre if they provide SMS notifications for tracking purposes.
- Additionally, you can track your visa application status online using the Reference Number found on the invoice or receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre. Combine this Reference Number with your last name to access the tracking service and get updates on your application’s progress.
Collect your passport
- Once your visa application decision is made, you can collect your passport from the Visa Application Centre.
- To collect it in person, bring the receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre and a valid form of government identification.
- If allowed, you may also have the option to send a representative to pick up your passport. They must present a letter of authorization from you, the receipt issued by the Visa Application Centre, and their own government identification.
- Before going, check with the Visa Application Centre during opening hours to know the available options for collecting your documents.
DOCUMENT CHECKLIST

VISA APPLICATION GUIDELINES:
The process for applying for a Danish study visa (also known as a residence permit for studies) from India typically involves the following steps:
If you’re interested in studying in Denmark, you must apply for a residence and work permit specifically for students.
- Choose a Program and University: First, you need to choose a study program and a university in Denmark that you want to attend. Ensure that your chosen program is taught in English, unless you are proficient in Danish.
- Get Acceptence Leeter: Apply to your chosen university and receive an acceptance letter. You will need this letter for your visa application.
- Obtain Your Case Order ID: Visit the SIRI website and generate a unique case order ID for your visa application. Within the application section, select the ‘Higher Education’ case type and fill in your personal information as required. Once this is completed, you will be issued a case order number for your reference.
- Settle the Visa Fee: After obtaining your Case Order ID, it’s time to handle the visa fee. The payment is determined by specific agreements or obligations.
Exemptions apply under specific circumstances:
- The Association Agreement between the EU and Turkey
- Denmark’s international commitments
Remember, even if you are exempt from the fee, obtaining a Case Order ID remains a necessity.
- Compile Necessary Documents: Compile a comprehensive set of documents required for your Denmark visa application. This will typically include an acceptance letter from your chosen school, evidence of financial means, and other relevant materials. Ensure all mandatory documents are submitted, as any omission could jeopardize your visa application.
Please note: For online applications, make sure all your documents are in digital format.
- Complete the Application Form: The visa application form should be completed in collaboration with your educational institution. You have the option of choosing between an online form or a printable form.
- For online applications (ST1 online):
- Your educational institution will need to fill out the initial two sections.
- You will subsequently receive a reference number and password for the remaining sections.
- For printable form applications (Word, PDF):
- You’ll complete part 1 of the application, focusing on your personal information.
- Your educational institution will handle the other part.
- Once both segments are finished, submit them together.
- Submit Your Application: If you’ve opted for online application, your submission is already with SIRI for processing. If not, you have several submission routes:
- If you’re legally residing in Denmark, you can submit your application at a SIRI branch office.
- If you’re not in Denmark, you can submit your application at a Danish diplomatic mission or an application center.
- Enroll Your Biometrics: For your Danish student visa application, enrolling your biometric information is mandatory. This includes capturing your photograph and fingerprints. You can do this at a Danish diplomatic mission abroad or at a SIRI branch office.
Online applicants should note that they have a 14-day window to submit their biometrics at a diplomatic mission; failing to do so may lead to visa rejection.
- Await a Response: Following submission, your application will undergo a processing period of approximately two months (60 days). You will receive updates on your application status via email or SMS. Upon approval, you’ll have the green light to journey to Denmark and begin your enrollment in your chosen academic courses.
