Denmark has made it easier for certain foreign workers to work in the country for short periods without needing a residence and work permit. This change, starting November 17, is aimed at attracting skilled workers and boosting Denmark’s economy.
To qualify, individuals must work for a foreign company with a branch in Denmark that has at least 50 employees. The rule applies to specific workers like managers, researchers, foreign company representatives on business trips, and household staff of foreign visitors for up to three months.
The Danish Immigration Service may also exempt certain foreign nationals from non-EU/EEA or Nordic countries based on their profession or specific circumstances.
Those eligible can work in Denmark for up to 90 days without a work permit. However, citizens of countries with a visa requirement will still need a visitor’s visa. If someone with a specific job’s work permit wants to teach or work elsewhere, they need to apply for a sideline employment permit.
Denmark hopes these changes will make it simpler for foreign companies to hire skilled workers and address labor shortages in specific sectors.
