Cyprus wants to be part of the Schengen Area and Visa Waiver Program by 2024. The Foreign Minister, Constantinos Kombos, says it’s a big goal for the country. He hopes Cyprus can join the passport-free zone in 2024, and he talked about this while presenting his plan for 2023-2024. Even though Cyprus is not in the Schengen Zone, it’s been in the European Union since 2004. That means people from all EU countries can visit Cyprus without a visa. Also, people from the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), Switzerland, Iceland, and Norway can travel to Cyprus without a visa.

Cypriots can travel to all EU countries without needing extra things like visas. Right now, Cyprus is being checked to see if it’s ready to join the Schengen Area.

On July 25 this year, Cyprus got access to the Schengen Information System (SIS), which helps with security and managing borders in Europe. Luca Tagliaretti from EU-LISA thought this was a big step for both EU-LISA and the EU.
