Types of Visa
All Indian travelers heading to China must obtain a visa, which is known as a Chinese Visa. There are various types of Chinese Visas, and it’s crucial to determine the purpose of your visit and the specific visa category required. There are approximately 16 types of visas, including different categories and sub-categories, catering to a range of reasons such as transit, temporary stays, and permanent residence in China. It is essential to identify the appropriate visa type applicable to your case before initiating the application process.
Here’s an explanation of each category:
C Visa (Crew Visa): The C visa is issued to crew members of international transportation, such as airlines, ships, or trains, who need to enter China for work-related purposes.
D Visa (Residence Visa): The D visa, also known as the Residence visa, is granted to individuals who intend to reside in China for various reasons, such as employment, family reunion, or study. It allows for a longer duration of stay compared to other visa types.
F Visa (Business/Visit Visa): The F visa, also known as the Business/Visit visa, is intended for individuals who are visiting China for non-commercial business activities or cultural exchanges. This visa is suitable for attending conferences, seminars, or conducting research.
G Visa (Transit Visa): The G visa, also known as the Transit visa, is for individuals who are transiting through China to reach their final destination in another country. It allows a short stay in China during the transit period.
J1 Visa (Journalist Visa): The J1 visa is issued to foreign journalists or correspondents who need to work in China for journalistic purposes, such as reporting or interviewing.
J2 Visa (Journalist Visa): The J2 visa is for foreign journalists who are visiting China for a short period, usually less than 180 days, for journalistic activities.
L Visa (Tourist Visa): The L visa, also known as the Tourist visa, is granted to individuals who plan to visit China for tourism purposes, such as sightseeing, visiting family or friends, or engaging in other activities unrelated to business or employment.
M Visa (Business Visa): The M visa, also known as the Business visa, is for individuals traveling to China for business-related activities, such as attending conferences, negotiating contracts, or exploring potential business opportunities.
Q1 Visa (Family Visit Visa): The Q1 visa is for individuals who plan to visit their Chinese family members for a long duration (more than 180 days) or for family reunification purposes.
Q2 Visa (Family Visit Visa): The Q2 visa is for individuals who plan to visit their Chinese family members for a short duration (less than 180 days) or for family reunification purposes.
R Visa (Talent Visa): The R visa, also known as the Talent visa, is issued to individuals with extraordinary skills or talents in specific fields who are invited to work or provide expertise in China.
S1 Visa (Private Visit Visa): The S1 visa is granted to individuals who intend to visit their Chinese family members or friends for a long duration (more than 180 days) or for other private visit purposes.
S2 Visa (Private Visit Visa): The S2 visa is issued to individuals who plan to visit their Chinese family members or friends for a short duration (less than 180 days) or for other private visit purposes.
X1 Visa (Student Visa): The X1 visa is granted to individuals who have been accepted by a Chinese educational institution and plan to study in China for a period longer than 180 days.
X2 Visa (Student Visa): The X2 visa is for individuals who have been accepted by a Chinese educational institution and plan to study in China for a short duration (less than 180 days).
Z Visa (Work Visa): The Z visa, also known as the Work visa, is required for individuals who have obtained a job offer or employment contract in China and intend to work in the country. It is the primary visa type for employment purposes.
