China has announced plans to let Swiss passport holders enter the country without a visa, aiming to boost tourism and revive the economy post-COVID-19 lockdowns. This move is part of China’s strategy to attract more visitors, following similar measures for countries like France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, and Malaysia. The visa-free entry for Swiss travelers is set to begin, with an expiration date of November 30, 2024. China is open to extending this policy based on its success.

In December 2023 alone, 118,000 visitors from these countries entered China visa-free, mainly for tourism and business purposes. Additionally, China has simplified visa application rules for American tourists, exempting them from certain requirements to make the country a more appealing destination.
