Effective January 11, 2024, the National Immigration Administration (NIA) has introduced measures to simplify entry for foreign nationals coming to China for business, study, and tourism.

As China’s economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic, both Chinese and foreign companies have pushed for improved immigration services to enhance the business environment and showcase the country’s openness.

The new policies include:

  1. Relaxed port visa requirements for urgent visits.
  2. Exemption from border inspection for foreign nationals on 24-hour transit at nine international airports.
  3. Facilitation of visa extension and renewal for short-term visits.
  4. Provision of re-entry visas for those needing multiple entries.
  5. Simplified document submission for visa applications, exempting certain documentation for verification.

In 2024, China has also streamlined visa policies, including simplified requirements for US tourists, reduced visa fees temporarily, and implemented a 15-day visa waiver for nationals of several countries. Other changes include proposed visa-free arrangements and expanded online visa services.”
