Canadian College Cancels Admissions for Indian Students, Shattering Dreams

Canada’s Northern College, Scarborough campus, has disrupted plans for Indian students, especially from Punjab, due to an unexpected move. The college canceled admissions shortly before the expected September session, leaving students uncertain. Despite investing in accommodation and airfare for their Canada journey, students were taken aback. The reason behind this was an unexpectedly high number of applications, causing seat availability problems.

Sunil, who handles Canada student visa cases at Pyramid e-Services, explained that the college had issued more offer letters than available seats, anticipating visa clearance issues. However, the low rejection rate led the college to cancel admissions. To mitigate the impact, the college assured full fee refunds and provided the option to secure offer letters from other institutions, with the possibility of fee transfers.

Harmanjot Singh, an affected student, had booked a non-refundable ticket for an August 29 departure. The sudden decision caught him and others off guard.

The cancellation also raised concerns within the Sikh community in Canada. Advocacy groups like the World Sikh Organisation of Canada voiced opposition and called for reconsideration.

Parents of impacted students highlighted logistical and financial challenges. The abrupt cancellation disrupted the plans of students who had already invested in accommodations and airfare for the upcoming September session.
