The Canadian government is holding a lottery to sponsor parents and grandparents to live in Canada. The lottery opens today, October 10, and closes on October 23. If you submitted an interest-to-sponsor form in 2020, you may receive an invitation to apply.

To be eligible for the lottery, you must meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) requirements. The MNI is different for each province and territory. You must also provide proof of income for the past three years.

If you don’t receive an invitation this year, you can still sponsor your parents and grandparents through the Super Visa program. The Super Visa is a multiple-entry visa that allows parents and grandparents to stay in Canada for up to five years at a time.

To be eligible for the Super Visa, your parents or grandparents must have a valid passport, meet the medical requirements, and be able to show that they have enough money to support themselves while in Canada.

Here are some tips for sponsoring your parents and grandparents to live in Canada:

  • Make sure you meet the eligibility requirements.
  • Gather all of the required documentation.
  • Be patient. The sponsorship process can take several months or even years.
  • Stay informed about changes to the PGP and Super Visa programs.
