Shortage Occupation List

The Federal Skilled Worker Program is part of Canada’s Express Entry system. If you’re a skilled worker with the right education, work experience, age, and language skills in English or French, you can express your interest. Your profile goes into a pool and is ranked based on certain criteria. The top-ranked candidates may get an invitation to apply for permanent residence. If invited, you need to submit a complete application within 60 days. This program aims to select qualified individuals for permanent residency in Canada.

To enter the Express Entry Pool as a Federal Skilled Worker, you must meet these essential conditions:

  1. Have one year of continuous full-time paid work experience (or part-time equivalent) in the past 10 years in one of the 370 eligible occupations.
  2. Your work experience should fall into TEER categories 0, 1, 2, or 3 of the National Occupational Classification system.
  3. Score at least 67 points in the skilled worker point grid, which considers six selection factors.
  4. Take a language test from a recognized third party and demonstrate intermediate-level language skills in English or French (Canadian Language Benchmark 7).
  5. Have sufficient settlement funding.
  6. Pass a security background check and a medical examination.

To find out if you qualify for the Federal Skilled Worker Program or other Canadian immigration programs, complete our free online evaluation for Skilled Workers or other categories. You’ll receive your evaluation results within 1-2 business days.
