Canada recently shared new rules for digital nomads. According to Immigration Refugees Citizenship (IRCC), a digital nomad is someone who can work from anywhere globally. They can stay in Canada for up to six months with just visitor status, working remotely for a foreign employer. The key is their work should have no ties to Canada โ€“ no serving Canadian clients or working from a local office.

Starting as a digital nomad in Canada is fine, but if there’s a plan to shift to a Canadian company, a work permit is a must. Family members joining digital nomads to work or study in Canada also need permits.

Foreigners entering Canada as digital nomads with visitor status don’t need extra paperwork but still need to convince officers they’ll leave when their stay is up.

IRCC rolled out a strategy to attract global tech talent to Canada, highlighting the tech sector’s importance to the country’s economy.
