Canada’s immigration program for parents and grandparents, known as the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP), is set to accept a maximum of 15,000 sponsorship applications in 2023. Starting on October 10, 2023, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) will send invitations to apply to 24,200 potential sponsors, chosen randomly from the pool of submissions from 2020.

Applicants invited to join the 2023 intake can conveniently submit their applications online through the Permanent Residence Portal or the Representative Permanent Residence Portal. Additionally, Canada has set an immigration target of welcoming 28,500 parents and grandparents among the 465,000 new permanent residents expected in 2023. Looking ahead to 2025, Canada aims to bring in 36,000 parents and grandparents as part of its goal to reach 500,000 new permanent residents. Canadian citizens and permanent residents also have the option of the Super Visa to facilitate the visit of their foreign parents and grandparents, offering extended stays and flexibility for eligible sponsors.
