In 2021, Canada stepped up to assist Afghanistan during a tough period, and their support has continued. Canada’s strong connection with Afghanistan and the Afghan community in Canada played a vital role.

According to Marc Miller, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship, they have successfully welcomed over 40,000 vulnerable Afghans since 2021, making it one of the largest programs worldwide. Canada remains dedicated to helping these individuals and will prioritize their applications, aiming to assist as many as possible.

This achievement was possible through the hard work of many people in Canada and worldwide, partnering with neighboring countries, the United Nations, the International Organization for Migration, and other organizations.

As Afghan refugees settle in various Canadian communities, the government, along with people in different regions, has provided strong support. Canadians have sponsored Afghan refugees, and organizations have helped them find housing, access healthcare, and acquire new skills. This collaborative effort across more than 180 communities in Canada has not only helped Afghans start fresh but has also enabled them to thrive in their new communities.
