Canada is simplifying travel, study, and work processes for people in Portugal with the opening of a new visa application centre in Lisbon on February 26, 2024. The announcement was made by the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship. This addition brings Canada’s visa application network to 163 locations across 110 countries.

Managed by private companies in collaboration with the Canadian government, visa application centres (VACs) play a crucial role in the visa process. They accept and securely transmit necessary documents to Canadian immigration offices and provide biometric collection services. VAC service agents, accessible by phone, email, or in person, assist applicants in local languages to ensure their applications are complete.

Minister Miller highlighted the close connections between Canada and Portugal, emphasizing the goal of making it more convenient for Portuguese citizens to visit, study, or work in Canada. The new centre in Lisbon is expected to open doors for opportunities and cultural exchange between the two countries.
