Brazil has postponed, for the second time, the reintroduction of tourist visa requirements for people from the US, Australia, and Canada. Former President Jair Bolsonaro had scrapped the visa needs in 2019 to boost tourism, but the three countries still required visas from Brazilians. Initially set for October 1, the visa implementation was moved to January 10 by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in September.
Now, Brazil’s presidency has announced another delay, pushing the deadline to April 10. The government is finalizing the new visa system and wants to avoid implementing it during the high season, especially New Year’s celebrations and Carnival festivities in February, attracting tens of thousands of tourists.
