Brazil is delaying the reintroduction of entry visas, giving a break to tourists heading to the Rio de Janeiro Carnival 2024. Until April 10, travelers from Australia, Canada, and the US can plan their trips without worrying about immediate visa requirements. Brazil had initially planned to bring back visas for these countries after a five-year waiver that started in 2019.

The delay allows the Brazilian government more time to roll out a new electronic visa system. This decision, as explained by the tourism board to Skift, aims to ensure a smooth flow of tourists during the high season and successfully implement the E-Visa system.

The extension is meant to make sure the new visa requirement doesn’t disrupt the arrival of tourists from these countries during the peak season,” clarified the tourism board in a statement to Skift.
