Brazil has postponed the start of new visa rules for travelers from the United States, Canada, and Australia. Originally set for January 10, 2024, the change will now take effect on April 10, 2024. The decision, made by President Luiz Inรกcio Lula da Silva, aims to avoid disruptions during the peak tourism season. The delay allows for improvements to the online visa application system, making it faster and more efficient.

The visa fee is US $80.90, valid for 10 years for U.S. citizens and five years for Canadians and Australians. The Ministry of Tourism notes the United States is Brazil’s second-largest source of foreign visitors.

Between January and October 2023, Brazil welcomed over 530,000 Americans, constituting 11% of total tourists. During the same period, 66,000 Canadians and 38,000 Australians visited the country.
