Australia is thinking about making it easier for international students to study there and work after their studies. Right now, students have to prove they’re only coming to Australia to study, not to live there permanently. They do this by writing a 300-word statement explaining why they want to study abroad.
But the government wants to change this rule. They might replace it with a new test called the Genuine Student Test (GST). This test would look at students who are really good at what they do and could help Australia by working there after they finish studying.
An earlier report suggested that Australia should try to attract more talented international students and make it easier for them to stay in the country after they graduate by introducing the GST pathway.
