Step 1. Identify your visa type
- Before applying for a visa to Australia, determine the purpose of your visit, such as tourism, work, study, or family migration, to select the appropriate visa category.
- Visit the official website of the Department of Home Affairs or consult the nearest Australian embassy or consulate for detailed information on visa categories, requirements, and application procedures.
- Review the specific eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and financial obligations for the chosen visa type to ensure a successful visa application for Australia.
Step 2. Before you apply
Outside Australia – Apply for your visa at least 8 weeks before your course starts.
In Australia – Allow plenty of time to apply for your next visa, avoid waiting until the last day your current substantive visa expires in case of unexpected complications, as we may not always be able to help you.
Organise health exams
You might need to have health examinations. You can complete them before you apply.

Have a valid passport
You and your family members must hold a valid passport in order to lodge a student visa application.
If you are in Australia and your current passport expires, you will need to renew it before you apply for your student visa.

To ensure you have all the necessary documents, use the Document Checklist Tool by entering your passport country and education provider. If you haven’t chosen a provider yet, select the ‘I have not decided on a provider yet’ option.
The tool will provide a checklist of required evidence. If you need further information on a specific item, select ‘Show steps’. Before submitting your application, double-check the document checklist to ensure you have the latest version.
Note that the tool is updated twice a year on 31 March and 30 September.

Identity Documents:
- Proof of identity is a mandatory requirement for your visa application.
- Failure to provide the necessary documents may result in visa refusal or a 10-year ban on future visa applications for you and any listed family members.
- Submit the following pages from your current passport: the pages with your photo, personal information, and passport issuance and expiration dates.
- If you possess a national identity card, provide a copy of it as well.
- If your name has been changed, provide documentation such as a marriage or divorce certificate or legal name change documents issued by the relevant authority.

If your letter of support does not say it will meet the living costs and expenses of each secondary applicant, then evidence of sufficient funds is also required.

Step 4. Apply for the visa
- To apply for this visa, use the online application portal.
- It is possible to apply while inside or outside Australia.
- Submit a comprehensive application with all the required documents to ensure timely processing.
- The application form on ImmiAccount will guide you on which documents to provide. Note that incomplete applications may be refused or delayed.
Step 5. After you apply
- Find out what actions are required of you after submitting your application.
- Timely responses to any information requests from the Department are critical. Don’t wait for the deadline; respond as soon as possible. Check your ImmiAccount regularly for messages from the Department and respond promptly.
- It is best to avoid scheduling travel plans until your visa is approved.

If it is within standard processing times do not call. We can’t provide any further updates on the application’s progress. You can see if we have asked for more information in your ImmiAccount.
Biometrics
- In some cases, we may require biometric information from you.
- You will typically receive a request for biometrics immediately after submitting your application. This request will be visible on your ImmiAccount and in a letter.
- You will have 14 days to complete the biometrics process. It is critical to schedule an appointment as soon as possible using the instructions provided in the request letter.
- Biometric information must be submitted before travelling to Australia.

- If you did not include all the necessary documents during your initial application, attach them promptly through ImmiAccount.
- The Department may finalize your application based on the information you initially submitted with your visa application. Therefore, it is advisable to provide all required documents and information.
- You can upload up to 60 documents in ImmiAccount. Furthermore, we may ask for additional information at any time during the application process.

Step 6. Visa outcome
- We will inform you of the decision on your visa application in writing, including your visa grant number, expiry date, and conditions.
- It is recommended that you keep a copy of the decision with you while you are in Australia.
- If your visa application is rejected, we will notify you in writing, including the reasons for the rejection and whether you have the right to review the decision.
- The application fee will not be refunded if your application is denied.

VISA APPLICATION GUIDELINES:
Please find below a step-by-step guide on the process of acquiring a visa.
- Choose a course and institution: Select a course and institution in Australia that is registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).
- Meet the eligibility requirements: Ensure you meet the eligibility criteria, which include receiving an offer of enrollment from the educational institution, having sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses, and meeting English language proficiency requirements.
- Gather required documents: Prepare the necessary documents, including a valid passport, Confirmation of Enrollment (CoE) from the institution, financial documents, English language proficiency test results, health insurance, and any other specified documents.
- Complete the online application: Create an ImmiAccount on the official website of the Australian Department of Home Affairs and fill out the online Student Visa application form (Form 157A). Provide accurate and complete information.
- Pay the application fee: Pay the required visa application fee through the online portal. The fee can be paid using a credit card or other acceptable payment methods.
- Submit supporting documents: Upload the supporting documents, including proof of identity, CoE, financial documents, English language proficiency test results, health insurance, and any additional documents requested by the application form.
- Undergo health examinations: If required, complete a health examination by a panel physician approved by the Australian Department of Home Affairs. Follow the provided instructions to schedule and attend the examination.
- Attend an interview: If requested, attend an interview at the nearest Australian visa office in India. The interview may be conducted to assess your genuine intention to study in Australia.
- Track application status: Monitor the progress of your application through your ImmiAccount. The processing time for the Student Visa may vary, so be patient during this period.
