Australia’s Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, has announced a simplified visa application process for Fijian citizens. This initiative aims to promote smoother travel and deepen the friendship between the two countries.
Australia is also providing financial support to assist Fiji’s economic recovery efforts.
Both leaders acknowledged the benefits of labor mobility and pledged to collaborate on addressing the economic and social challenges associated with the program. They also agreed to ensure that the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme aligns with their shared priorities and to enhance partnerships for skills development catering to the workforce needs of both Fiji and Australia.
The Prime Ministers emphasized the importance of regional unity and look forward to close collaboration at the upcoming Forum Leaders meeting in November.
Recognizing the global tensions, the leaders underscored the significance of regional cooperation. Prime Minister Albanese praised Fiji’s significant contributions to peace and security in the region, particularly its commendable participation in international peacekeeping operations. He confirmed Australia’s commitment to fulfilling Fiji’s request for the acquisition of 14 additional Protected Mobility Vehicles (Bushmasters) to support Fiji’s ongoing peacekeeping efforts worldwide.
