Following visa cancellations for Palestinians amidst Gaza’s conflict, Australia has reinstated some visas after security checks. Advocates seek transparency in vetting procedures for other Palestinians with Australian visas fleeing Gaza.
Rasha Abbas of Palestine Australia Relief and Action (PARA) confirmed eight out of 11 Palestinians had their visas reinstated.
Australia issued 2,200 visas to Palestinians and 2,400 to Israelis since October. Most Palestinian visas are temporary, akin to tourist rights.
Cancellations happened when individuals left Gaza without explaining their escape or if circumstances changed, per the Australian government. Some cancellations cited a lack of intent to temporarily stay in Australia.
