Australia Raises Minimum English Language Requirements for Student Visas

Starting March 23, 2024, international students applying to study in Australia must prove their English proficiency for their visa applications. The Australian Government updated the English Language Requirements for Student and Temporary Graduate visas to ensure students are better prepared for the workforce post-studies.

For Temporary Graduate Visa (TGV), the minimum IELTS test score increased from 6.0 to 6.5, with 5.5 in each test section. The TGV application validity is now 1 year, and applicants need a recent English Language test.

For Student Visas, the minimum IELTS score required is now 6. The score for packaged ELICOS courses increased to 5.0. There’s no change for students solely studying English through ELICOS.

These changes aim to improve students’ English skills, helping them smoothly transition to higher education or the workforce.
