I am applying From

and Iโ€™m going to

As of July 1, 2023, Australia has introduced changes in visa rules for Indian graduates studying in Australian tertiary institutions. These changes have been implemented following a bilateral agreement signed between India and Australia in May 2023. Under the new rules, Indian students now have extended work opportunities in Australia.

Work Without Visa for Up to Eight Years

As per the bilateral agreement, Indian students can now apply for work without a visa for up to eight years under the Mobility Arrangement for Talented Early-professionals Scheme (MATES). This scheme allows 3000 young professionals from India to work in Australia annually without requiring a visa for a maximum duration of eight years. This opens up significant prospects for Indian graduates looking to build their careers in various fields.

Two Years in Australia without a Visa Sponsor

In addition to the eight-year work opportunity, Indian students can now spend two years in Australia even without a visa sponsor. This means that eligible graduates can stay and work in Australia for two years after completing their studies, providing them with ample time to explore job opportunities and gain valuable work experience.

MATES Temporary Visa Program

The MATES visa program is designed to benefit Indian professionals specializing in fields such as engineering, information and communication technology, mining, financial technology, artificial intelligence, and renewable energy. It offers a temporary visa that allows these talented early professionals to work in Australia and contribute to its diverse industries.

Increased Working Hours

Under the new visa rules, the working hours for students have also been increased to 48 hours per fortnight. However, individuals employed in the aged care sector are exempt from this regulation and can work unlimited hours until December 31, 2023. This flexibility aims to accommodate students’ financial needs while maintaining a balanced approach to work and study commitments.

Eligibility Criteria

To avail the benefits under the MATES visa program, candidates must be below the age of 31 years and have obtained their education from a recognized and verified university. Meeting these criteria makes them eligible for an exciting array of work opportunities and a chance to contribute to Australia’s workforce.

These new visa rules signify a step towards strengthening ties between India and Australia and providing Indian graduates with enhanced career prospects. The extended work opportunities and increased working hours will undoubtedly attract more Indian students to pursue higher education in Australia and foster greater international collaboration in various fields.
