Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a big IT company from India, is being taken to court in the US. The reason for the lawsuit is that TCS is being accused of firing older American employees who work at its US offices. Instead, they are hiring foreign workers who come on temporary visas, like the H-1B visa, which is common in the tech industry.
The person who filed the lawsuit is Randy Devorin, who used to work at TCS for ten years until he was let go in 2023 when he was 61 years old. Devorin’s complaint says that TCS is getting rid of older White employees and replacing them with recent college graduates who are on temporary visas.
The lawsuit says that TCS is not following the laws about age discrimination, which means treating people unfairly based on their age. They are asking for money to cover the harm they say they’ve suffered, as well as the costs of going to court. This lawsuit came after news that 22 American workers complained to US authorities about TCS, saying they were treated unfairly because of their race and age. They claimed that Indian workers on temporary visas were treated better than they were.
